2ASC Awards 2001 Dinner by Djinn Seema and Stephen Ratliff
This was a lot of fun. I loved to see the characters stepping out to greet their adoring (in most cases) fans and writers. Some of the combinations were utterly inspired and many of the lines way too funny.

3An Olympic News Brief by Julie Evans
This was wonderful. Every single 'report' was dead-on. I especially loved T'Klutz, and the mention of the 'natural proliferation due to the monthly cycle' in terms of the nanoprobes. And there's even a mention of curling.
-- Rocky - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 04:45:56 -0500

5Golden Gateways by Sara Goose
Nice 'filling in the blanks' between the devastation of WWIII and Cochrane's first flight. This is an era I'd love to see more of in fic. I also like the symbolism of the bridge and what it represents. My only complaint about Sara's story is that it's too short!

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
PC run amok, and boy is it funny!
-- Rocky - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 04:52:43 -0500

8The Simple Joys of Captaincy by Jemima
As usual, Jemima does a stellar job with her preferred creative medium. I really enjoyed this. Each stanza can be interpreted as referring to a specific captain, but at the same time, there are elements of the Big Four in them all.

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
This was an artfully done, twenty-fourth century rendition of Holly Jolly Holiday that had us humming along with it. Very enjoyable.
-- Whoa Nellie - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 19:23:57 -0500

5Golden Gateways by Sara Goose
This was a fascinating view into Earth society during the period around the events of First Contact. Well-written to convey the point of view of an average woman, old at the time of Cochran's flight, with her impressions of the events and the founding of Starfleet Academy. Nice read, it captures the 'background people' seen in First Contact very well.
-- Whoa Nellie - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 19:25:35 -0500

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
In case you didn't hear/sense/perceive in the infrared spectrum, this sendup of a Christmas carol done in Federationally-correct lingo is hilarious. Be sure to share it with your t'hyla/imzadi soon.

3An Olympic News Brief by Julie Evans
Bwa ha ha ha!! Oh man, maybe I've watched one too many Olympic games but this is so spot on it's scary. I think my favorite part was the Ferengi observation on the possible value of issuing phasers to all competitors, ROFL! This was very clever and made me laugh out loud. Well done!
-- Djinn - Sun, 06 Apr 2003 18:25:22 -0400

8The Simple Joys of Captaincy by Jemima
Fun filk! And oh so true.
-- Djinn - Sun, 06 Apr 2003 18:25:41 -0400

5Golden Gateways by Sara Goose
Touching story about hope and rebuilding and making things better.
-- Djinn - Sun, 06 Apr 2003 18:25:56 -0400

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
Very funny! PC at its most extreme. And just too tempting to sing along with.
-- Djinn - Sun, 06 Apr 2003 18:26:08 -0400

10They Also Serve by Melissa Wilson
Whoa, They Also Serve made my head hurt--and I mean that in the very best way! I don't want to spoil this so I won't say much here about the plot. Suffice it to say, it doesn't go where you think, it goes somewhere better. Loved the nod to ear perforating at what can only be "My Heart Will Go On!" Bwa! Great story, very clever!
-- Djinn - Sun, 06 Apr 2003 18:26:42 -0400

2ASC Awards 2001 Dinner by Djinn Seema and Stephen Ratliff
I very much enjoyed being "invited" to the ASC Awards dinner last year, and I hope we'll be doing it again -- it was great fun!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 11 Apr 2003 10:45:13 -0400

3An Olympic News Brief by Julie Evans
Definitely a subject that's well suited to parody!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 11 Apr 2003 10:46:50 -0400

4Ensign O'Riley (Redshirt Wasteland) Filk by David Otaku (a.k.a. Piccolo_VI)
Hee hee, very funny! Gotta love the SFX!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 11 Apr 2003 10:48:01 -0400

5Golden Gateways by Sara Goose
A timely and thought-provoking comment on the difficulties of rebuilding after a war.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 11 Apr 2003 10:50:46 -0400

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
(groan) Totally unsingable, but funny.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 11 Apr 2003 10:51:40 -0400

3An Olympic News Brief by Julie Evans
Given the events of last year's Winter Olympics, this was a timely and hilarious parody. I thought that T'Klutz was especially inspired! This proves that Julie can write humor as well as drama.
-- Seema - Sat, 12 Apr 2003 13:00:10 -0400

4Ensign O'Riley (Redshirt Wasteland) Filk by David Otaku (a.k.a. Piccolo_VI)
This was a great filk.

5Golden Gateways by Sara Goose
I missed this lovely story by Sara Goose the first time it was posted and so once again, I'm indebted to the Awards for giving me a another chance to look at some of the best stories posted over the last year. I really liked this post-war Earth, of the struggle to rebuild and then the subtle underlying hope that a better time was yet to come. This is a wonderful pre-Star Trek universe fic, one that really illuminates what came before and what is yet to come. Lovely fic, Sara.
-- Seema - Sat, 12 Apr 2003 13:04:43 -0400

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
ROTFL, Paula does it again and I'm absolutely amazed. I especially liked the 'third subtentacle.' One of the most hilarious filks I've ever read.
-- Seema - Sat, 12 Apr 2003 13:06:00 -0400

8The Simple Joys of Captaincy by Jemima
This filk is sooo applicable to all of the Trek captains. Written with Jemima's trademark tongue-in-cheek humor, I especially enjoyed Borg standing aside as 'a simple joy of captaincy.' Picard and Janeway would most certainly agree!
-- Seema - Sat, 12 Apr 2003 13:08:51 -0400

9Stalking William Shatner by Ventura33
Peeps! This fic has peeps! Only Ventura33 could pull a fic like this off and she does it marvelously. Nice job.
-- Seema - Sat, 12 Apr 2003 13:11:30 -0400

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
This is a wonderful send up to the PC crew dedicated to making sure that nothing ever leaves anyone out. Even if the song is unsingable, nobody can claim offense ...
-- Valerie Shearer - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 04:36:04 -0400

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
This was great! Talk about political correctness. Very very funny.
-- Meghan Elizabeth - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 14:30:21 -0400

3An Olympic News Brief by Julie Evans
The mock-news format was well done from the fluff piece to the issues about judging.
-- Rabble Rouser - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 17:56:14 -0400

5Golden Gateways by Sara Goose
I liked this story and its glimpse of Cochrane's era through an interesting POV.
-- Rabble Rouser - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 17:56:42 -0400

6Have A Holly Jolly Unspecified Holiday by Paula Stiles
This was a lot of fun.
-- Rabble Rouser - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 17:57:20 -0400

8The Simple Joys of Captaincy by Jemima
I thought this filk was very clever. I enjoyed the allusions to each Trek series and as usual from Jemima this is one filk that works beautifully with the source material.
-- Rabble Rouser - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 17:57:55 -0400

10They Also Serve by Melissa Wilson
I loved Melissa Wilson's very good short story, "They Also Serve." The story was so very well-written and skillfully done. The writer really grounded me in the story from the very beginning in both time and space. I loved this imaginative premise for this kind of afterlife for characters in the fanficverse. I loved this line in particular: "You stop being the person you were, and start being who they think you were." That concept is both more than a little chilling and very thought-provoking. This is a very original, imaginative story that is not what you would expect and truly enjoyable from beginning to end. There is a figure in this which would find this story of particular interest to Next Generation fans but I don't want to spoil the pleasure of finding it out for yourself so I won't say more than that. This is a story with a good handle on character, that is written in a smooth, professional way, and that is thought-provoking to boot: A metafic about fan fiction. What more could you ask?
-- Rabble Rouser - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 17:59:48 -0400

11Trek Evil 9 by David Otaku
This was a nice filk with an eye-catching title.
-- Jemima - Mon, 14 Apr 2003 22:23:15 -0400

2ASC Awards 2001 Dinner by Djinn Seema and Stephen Ratliff
This whole dinner was a lot of fun and I had a blast participating in it. It's a good idea to tie everything up with a party and Djinn, Seem and Stephen certainly know how to throw one. The Trek references were fun (mais oui), as were the appearances of all our favourite EmCees. Here's hoping that this year's bash will be just as entertaining.
