This is the Digest from 2002 for the Category of: Voyager Filk or Poem

1lAcademy Drop-Out by Rob Morris
The topic is a perfect match for the song. I loved the line about Chakotay being bland.

1lAcademy Drop-Out by Rob Morris
The concept behind this one is funny enough, but the execution really makes the reader sit up and take notice. I'm never going to be able to listen to the original with a straight face again!
-- Rocky - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 03:48:43 -0500

2The Borg Queen by Jemima
As Jemima herself notes, everyone tries to filk "The Boxer", but I say few succeed as well as this.
-- Rocky - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 03:49:58 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
Oh, yes, I can just see Rex Harrison singing this one! Very clever.
-- Rocky - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 03:50:29 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
Only someone as brilliant and wickedly funny as Jemima would even attempt to filk the Man of la Mancha. While I'm not sure all of the Voyager characters match up quite so seemlessly with their musical counterparts, many of these are truly inspired. Yes, that's our Janeway, forever tilting at windmills, daring to dream--and attempt to make real--an impossible dream.
-- Rocky - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 03:51:31 -0500

5The Sound of Sickbay by Jemima
There are so many clever lines in here, so wonderfully appropriate, that I cannot even begin to enumerate them all. Suffice it to say this is my favorite of all of Jemima's filks, and that's really saying something.
-- Rocky - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 03:52:24 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
Ah, the fanficcer's lament--and rationale for turning from passive reader to active writer in the first place.
-- Rocky - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 03:53:03 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
This filk is positively epic; an incredible amount of fun. I didn't even mind having the "Man of LaMancha" music stuck in my head for days after I read this. I like it. I really like it.
-- Kelly Chambliss - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 20:23:27 -0500

5The Sound of Sickbay by Jemima
No one can touch Jemima when it comes to filks. The lyrics here are priceless. Among my favorite lines: "Did Chakotay my best shuttle wreck?" and "Do the implants the Borg planted in my brain / Still remain?" and "The words of the Prophets / Are useless when the wormhole roils; / Try transwarp coils."
-- Kelly Chambliss - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 20:27:28 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
My Oldies station recently dropped its late 50's/early 60's offerings in favor of an almost all-70's format. As a result, I have heard the song this is filked from more times than I can bear. Thank you, Jemima, for once again making it palatable. :)
-- Rob Morris - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 21:15:15 -0500

1lAcademy Drop-Out by Rob Morris
This was a delightful rendition (or perhaps more appropriately rending?) of the musical Grease set on Voyager. This was a laugh-out loud read, well-done.
-- Whoa Nellie - Thu, 27 Mar 2003 19:05:25 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
For the title alone! I'm not kidding - I laughed for ages at the title. She's one sick puppy is our Jemima (and the filk itself is a crack-up too).
-- Christinecgb - Fri, 28 Mar 2003 22:09:01 -0500

1lAcademy Drop-Out by Rob Morris
This filk was genuinely funny and put a wide smile on my face. Hard not to with visions of Kirk--well particularly visions of *Shatner* singing anything! Rob's "Academy Drop-Out was cute and clever and a fun read.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:08:35 -0500

2The Borg Queen by Jemima
This is another very well done filk by Jemima.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:09:13 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
The cumulative hilarity of "Janeway: the Musical" aside, I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage" was my favorite filk by Jemima Pereira this year. I really lost it when I reached the lines "I'm breathing out and breathing in." Especially anyone familiar with the source material, the song from "My Fair Lady," (and who isn't?) will find this a funny and clever filk that really works well with the original song. "I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage" is a winner.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:10:08 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
I loved "Janeway: the Musical, to be sung to the tunes of The Man of La Mancha. I thought it was hilarious and very clever. Each role assigned to the Voyager characters seemed very appropriate (and funny) especially Janeway in her quixotic quest to reach the Alpha Quadrant. I snickered at the reference to Chakotay and his lost shuttles, his character was well-mined for humor throughout, and laughed at "The Impossible Directive," "Kim the Perpetual Ensign" and B'Elanna's song in Klingon complete with translation. Jemima is one filker whose creations actually scan well with the original and this offering is witty and fresh.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:10:55 -0500

5The Sound of Sickbay by Jemima
I enjoyed this filk, "The Sound of Sickbay" by Jemima Pereira very much. It worked very well with the original song and like all of Jemima's filks was delightfully witty and clever. It rhymes, it scans, it bends the source material into a wonderful parody of Voyager. No quarter is given to any character here.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:11:45 -0500

6The Sloop NCC-74656 by Jemima
This was another fun and witty filk from Jemima that fits so well with the original material (Sloop John B sung by the Beach Boys). "The Sloop NCC-74657" is very enjoyable.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:14:05 -0500

8Storm by vanhunks
This was a well-written poem with a good rhythm to it.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:14:58 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
Like all of Jemima's filks, this was quite funny, clever, and enjoyable.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 13:15:35 -0500

1lAcademy Drop-Out by Rob Morris
Only Rob. Twisted in his typical wonderful way - B'Elanna as Frenchie and Kirk as Frankie. Marvelous.
-- Lori - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:56:32 -0500

2The Borg Queen by Jemima
I'll never hear the Boxer the same way. One of the best filks of that song I've seen -- I like how Jemima makes it all scan out right.
-- Lori - Sat, 29 Mar 2003 23:58:46 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
Short, but enough to make you squirt beverage out your nose. Thanks, Jemima. (wipes screen)
-- Lori - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 00:00:25 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
I was in awe when she first posted it. Going back now and scrolling through, I remain wide-eyed and open-mouthed. Filking one or two songs is one thing, an entire musical quite another - a wonderful job, showing off Jemima's true mastery of filk artistry.
-- Lori - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 00:02:59 -0500

5The Sound of Sickbay by Jemima
I love this one. Everyone will end up in sickbay, sooner or later, and this partial list of the reasons why -- oh, my aching sides.
-- Lori - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 00:09:18 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
A song we all sing from time to time, when stranded by a WIP that sits unfinished.
-- Lori - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 00:16:05 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
Okay, this is brilliant. A classic. The entire musical, scanning perfectly and still making valid and witty points about the characters and the shows - has anyone managed something like this before? Jemima is truly the Queen of Filk.
-- Penny Proctor - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 19:09:26 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
Snerk. Snerk again. I keep picturing Freddy Aynsworth-Hill, dressed in evening clothes and someone else's face, singing as he strolls down a corridor. If one goal of filk is to have the song stick in your head, then this succeeds admirably
-- Penny Proctor - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 19:12:55 -0500

2The Borg Queen by Jemima
What happens when you combine two of Jemima's strengths - Seven and filk? This happens, and boy, is it good.
-- Penny Proctor - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 19:18:29 -0500

1lAcademy Drop-Out by Rob Morris
Vintage Rob. I liked this filk. Nice job.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 21:56:43 -0500

2The Borg Queen by Jemima
Yet another good filk from Jemima.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:12:07 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
This is one of my most favorite jemifilks. The Vidiian POV is a perfect contrast to the original and as always, this scans beautifully.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:14:08 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
This is amazing. If Voyager ever made it to the Broadway stage, this is exactly how it should all play out. A work of this magnitude and complexity takes so much creativity and dedication. My hat's off to you, Jemima, for doing this so well.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:17:13 -0500

5The Sound of Sickbay by Jemima
This one combines Jemima's wit and humor with her ability to filk like no one else. I really like the line about Chakotay crashing another shuttle and the cameo by Q is a nice touch as well.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:18:38 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
Now *this* is very clever. Only Jemima can filk and meta in the same piece and succeed as beautifully as this. Very nice.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:20:46 -0500

8Storm by vanhunks
vanhunks' attention to imagery is well done here.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:23:40 -0500

6The Sloop NCC-74656 by Jemima
This ought to be the official "going home" song for the crew of Voyager. This filk absolutely sparkles and illustrates a hapless crewmember's (Harry?) POV beautifully. Yet another wonderful filk from Jemima.
-- Seema - Tue, 01 Apr 2003 22:27:42 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
I probably shouldn't be laughing at this, should I? :) "This almost feels like my own skin." *snicker*
-- Elise - Thu, 03 Apr 2003 10:09:35 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
I think the world did a collective "is she crazy?" when they learned that Jemima filked a whole musical. Of course, when they saw it, they all bowed to her greatness and sang her lyrics along to what little they could remember of the tune and made up their own for the rest. I hope this world doesn't consist of only me.
-- Sara - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 00:13:32 -0500

2The Borg Queen by Jemima
Jemima gave us some wonderful filks this year! I don't think I'd have been bold enough to try filking "The Boxer," but this tale of a drone's sad life definitely fits it!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 11:15:56 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
Bwahaha! Gross, but hilarious!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 11:16:56 -0500

4Janeway The Musical! by Jemima
This has got to rank as one of the all-time most impressive fanfic filk efforts. An entire musical, with all the Voyager cast staying perfectly in character throughout! Wow!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 11:19:35 -0500

5The Sound of Sickbay by Jemima
Oh, this one was hilarious, I was totally rolling on the floor laughing. What an imagination! I bow humbly before the Grandmaster of Filk!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 11:22:03 -0500

6The Sloop NCC-74656 by Jemima
Oh, those poor suffering Voyager dudes (snicker). Gotta love it.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 11:23:19 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
Ah yes, the question we all find ourselves asking from time to time. Heehee!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 11:24:45 -0500

3I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage by Jemima
LOL! That was sick, sick, sick! And probably about the only reason why I would read a filk about Viidians!
-- Paula Stiles - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 22:30:57 -0500

7Where is the Fic? by Jemima
Hehe. This is a very funny, yet somehow plaintive, filk, which could apply as easily to another series as to Voyager. Bound to make any of us with unfinished works out there feel guilty.
-- Paula Stiles - Fri, 04 Apr 2003 22:34:05 -0500
