Enterprise General Story
3Alpha Shift
Just Visiting has written a fantabulous story,! A great, strong plot. A fascinating puzzle. Great dialogue. Aliens that were very real despite their difference. And a great resolution. No easy outs. I love it!

5Archer is Swept Away
Ah, finally, a nod to canon! Love it!
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:36:04 -0500
8Catch Me When I Fall
I really like the shifting perspective, the desperation of Archer, the confused detachment of Trip. Wonderful. I also appreciated the way Kelly Meding captured the friendship of the two men in such a small space. Well done.
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:36:38 -0500
9Cherry Sno-Cones
Great inner voice on Trip. Nice look at what was going on in his head during Desert Crossing.
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:37:16 -0500
13The First Stone
An ambitious story, and one that does well in demonstrating the difference between cultures, and the price you pay when you walk in someone else's world without a map. The author captures the Tucker and Reed voices very well.
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:37:45 -0500
15Her Strut
This is very funny, that's for sure! But it also had a lot of interesting ideas all packed into one little place. And monkee hit the voices dead on, every single one! (Well, okay, we never hear Porthos, but it's as I imagine he would speak!) I loved "The Denobulan" and "the Subservient Quadruped" parts the best, but they were all great! Too fun.
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:38:30 -0500
16Hoshi's Box: The Final Straw
Love Hoshi's rant. I've had days like this!
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:38:50 -0500
32The Ritual
LOL! Poor, poor Hoshi! Fun story.
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:40:02 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
This story is too funny! And as far as Enterprise goes makes as much sense as anything else I've heard! Well done, Monkee!
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:40:21 -0500
30Porthos' Shadows of P'Jem Log
Love the puppy logs. Sorry to see them end!
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:40:54 -0500
31The Resolution
I love this story! A fantastic inner monologue in perfect Archer voice! And it really sucks you in and keeps you that way until the surprise ending. Very fun!
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:42:57 -0500
34Tilt
Nice look at the friendship between Trip and Hoshi. And I love revisiting the sweet spot!
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:43:31 -0500
35A Way With Words
Nostalgia has the most amazing way of making Hoshi Sato completely flawed and yet still within reach. This is one screwed up chick, yet I understand her somehow. I completely love the ending. I love the theme of how hard it can be to make a choice, how easy it can be to run. Amazing story. One of my favorite ENTfics all year.
-- Djinn - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:43:59 -0500
31The Resolution
Angst! Fun! Post-modernism!Lots of inner turmoil, a killer last line...Not sure what else I can say really, am ver' uneloquent. It's just so good. *heart*
-- nostalgia - Sat, 01 Mar 2003 13:56:18 -0500
2Anthropomorphism
We got something of an explanation for Porthos' name in "A Night in Sickbay" but I'm very fond of this one. I found this a charming story and the ending definitely left me with a smile on my face.

3Alpha Shift
Of all the Enterprise stories posted on ASC in 2002, this was my favorite. Of substantial, meaty length, there's room here for a real plot and Just Visiting delivers. This isn't just a coda, but an original story and an intriguing mystery to boot. The author is wonderful at writing from Hoshi's point of view and the voice is spot on. Moreover the author is good, to my ear at any rate, at sounding authoritative and authentic when speaking about linguistics. Not only Hoshi sounds spot on. From the beginning characters like Reed, Travis and T’Pol really jump out at you. (And what's amazing about that is that the story was posted in February when the first season was barely half over--yet JV nails them.) I like how Hoshi's interactions with each crewmember, each interesting in themselves, brings out another part of the puzzle. And the resolution of the mystery is original and satisfying. By and by there are the small pleasures to savor in a really good story. Things like the explanation for T'Pol's catsuit. The author is completely in control of her narrative and Just Visiting is that rare fanfic author whose stories read as smoothly as any professional. I have only two disappointments: That the real series has not proven half as intelligent as this story. That Just Visiting seems to have stopped posting her stories to ASC. They are wonderful.

4Archer Knows Jack
Bwwwwwaaaaahhhhhha! This was too funny.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:13:42 -0500
5Archer is Swept Away
It's fun to read stories that break open the fourth wall a little and comment on canon. I enjoyed the banter between Sato and Archer a lot. I loved the references not just to the other Trek series, but Buffy as well. Loved that little scene in Daniel's sealed quarters and just who was inside.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:14:53 -0500
6As Sharp as Any Thorn
I liked how Rob shows the effect on the crew of having been close in time to the "post-atomic" era on Earth that Q showed as displaying the worse of humanity. I liked the touch of the hybrid tree that cleansed the Earth being a gift of Phlox's people.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:15:49 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
I thought this story of Monkee's was even more hilarious on second reading. Monkee explains all the mysteries surrounding the Birth of the Federation in this tale. It is told in a script format and the asides are priceless (particularly on Vulcans not acting like themselves and why it must be the yeoman who serves...because...well, read the story). Loved the reason Earth got the nod as the Federation Headquarters, and I thoroughly enjoyed all the dramatis personae from Soval the too-peeved Vulcan, Ted the Tellerite, Orville the Orion, Shran the Andorian and especially Klaang the Klingon. LOVED Monkee's clueless Archer. Liked the reasons various alien races wound up *not* joining the Federation--especially those pesky Klingons. Very fun story. You might even say delicious. And not the least bit sugary. Doesn't stick to the roof of the mouth either.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:20:16 -0500
8Catch Me When I Fall
This was a lovely Archer and Tucker friendship story well-told. I like the differing points of view throughout and the entire story is narrated well and all the characters voices dead on--I can immediately tell which man is speaking. I liked how Trip's flashbacks (or surfacing memories at any rate) fills in Trip's relationship with Archer, mirrors his delirium, and fit with the theme of trust. Kelly is also very good at conjuring up the horror and fear when a crisis happens and someone is injured and her imagery is quite vivid. I thought the bit from T'Pol's point of view and her reflections on friendship was a nice way to end the story.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:22:15 -0500
9Cherry Sno-Cones
I liked the portrait Thurman gave us of Natalie and "that dress." LOL. Liked that detail about Trip and her having that sno-cone together and meeting up at the middle. It was nice to get some back story for Trip that filled in the details of that girlfriend who wrote the "Dear Trip" letter.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:23:14 -0500
9Cherry Sno-Cones
I like the banter back and forth between Trip and T'Pol in this short short. It makes a good point--and I enjoyed seeing T'Pol get her licks in.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:24:43 -0500
10Chivalry
I like the banter back and forth between Trip and T'Pol in this short short. It makes a good point--and I enjoyed seeing T'Pol get her licks in.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:25:58 -0500
9Cherry Sno-Cones
I inadvertently voted for this story twice by putting the comments meant for Gadikowski's "Chivalry" in the comment box and forgetting to change the story selected above. Please discard the second vote for this story, the one with comments identical to that of "Chivalry"
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:28:16 -0500
11Don't You Tell A Single Soul
I liked this story and its twist to Hoshi's story of the Star of Bethlehem that would make a crackin' good tale in itself. T'Pol's story was a hoot that had me laughing out loud and Archer's response to it left me with a wide smile on my face. What more can you ask for in a Christmas story?
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:31:58 -0500
13The First Stone
It's nice to see an Enterprise story of more substantial length that can take advantage of that to tell a true story, flesh out character, and explore theme. I loved the interaction between Trip and Reed from the start. Taryn Eve gets their voices just right, delivers some interesting insights while immediately putting us into the action. It says right out front in the summary to "The First Stone" that this story would be about what happens when Trip tries to impose his values on an alien culture and I thought the author developed that theme deftly. The reactions, actions, and impressions of both Trip and Reed to the encounter was perfectly in character. The story is well-written and smoothly narrated, a pleasure to read. I liked how Taryn Eve drew the aliens, both the culture and the individuals among them came across vividly. I thought the resolution of the story was just perfect. This is an excellent story!
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:33:50 -0500
14A Friend in Need
This was a likable story of the friendship between Trip, Hoshi, and Malcolm.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:34:48 -0500
15Her Strut
This was both hilarious and filled with some nice, serious insights. I loved how Monkee handled the different points of view in "Her Strut" Not one point of view among the regulars was left out of this including that of the "The Subservient Quadruped." (My favorite portion of the story). Well, that is of course except for the strutee herself. I liked how Monkee captured the cadence of Archer's voice. I could really hear him saying those words and I like his thoughts about how hard it is to read her and how building a solid command relationship will be demanding enough. I loved Trip's segment and his admission that she just might break his heart. Reed's turn made me laugh out loud. And it was fun to finally hear someone give Travis a voice. Loved the reference to finding *her* sweet spot! LOL. She captured well some of that man's arrogance while giving a nod to how little we know him thus far. I like how Monkee handles Hoshi's complex feelings and how she nails Phlox's prurient interest. And in each little glimpse into the other's thoughts we get a nice picture of T'Pol as well. Nicely done.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:36:45 -0500
16Hoshi's Box: The Final Straw
Mara describes Hoshi's frustration and the mystery behind the box left at the station so well. I found "The Final Straw" a fun and amusing story. I liked the unexpected ending. I loved that last line. Good for a smile;-)
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:37:33 -0500
18Little Spaceship of Horror
I enjoyed how the author poked fun at Archer, Mayweather, and Reed.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:38:18 -0500
19The Land Of Canon : Acquisition
This is a chilling retelling of "Acquisition" thru Hoshi's eyes written as if TOS mattered. So instead of a comedy featuring Ferengi we get a horror piece featuring TOS's Orion pirates. I got chills at the references of Hoshi's nervous gestures and obsessive scrubbing hinting at what happened.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:39:01 -0500
20The Land Of Canon : Glimpses of a Broken Bow
Ah--Enterprise recast as if the original series mattered. I appreciated all the little changes Rob made to make this episode fit what we've known. All it ever needed was a little care and a lot more imagination. It was interesting to see T'Pau take on the Soval role here, the far less advanced language system and cruder transporter and especially the substitution of Andorians for Klingons and Tellerites for Suliban. This Archer, more appreciate of what Vulcans can contribute, is an interesting alternative. Rob even manages to make Mayweather interesting--a feat that has so far eluded the producers of the show. An interesting "recombination" as Rob calls it of Enterprise.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:41:37 -0500
21The Land Of Canon : Fight Or Flight
I am enjoying Rob Morris' flights thru the land of canon--one where TOS canon is well woven in leaving me shaking my head at the opportunities TPTB missed to enrich Enterprise. This story's focus was on Archer and I found myself liking him more than I usually do on the series.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:42:35 -0500
22The Land Of Canon : Fusion
This story had a great twist at the end. I liked how Rob wove TOS canon elements like T'Pau into this story. He deftly used different points of view, particularly Archer's logs to tell the story. The end hit me in the gut with its alternate interpretation and allusion to the title of the ep.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:43:30 -0500
23The Land Of Canon : Oasis
This is the latest installment from Rob's Land of Canon but not I hope the last. This had more than one twist both in a different resolution to the episode and in the introduction of Rob's substitution for T'Pol. This is certainly one alternate universe of Rob's I'd like to read more of.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:45:10 -0500
24The Land Of Canon : Strange New World
This was an interesting story told from the POV of a Tellarite that joined the crew. Rather makes me wish we were spending time on Enterprise exploring Tellerites and Andorians rather than mangle what we know of Vulcans. This alt is even darker and sadder that the source ep.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:46:15 -0500
25The Land Of Canon : Terra Nova
I liked how the story dealt with one of the ep's plot chasms--much too big really to be thought of a plot hole. I like how Rob weaves both created and Enterprise regulars in the AU. It's a different dynamic but the characters are still very much recognizable.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:47:01 -0500
27Pandora's Hawk
I really enjoyed this very short story written from Reed's point of view. It is well written and in character and really rather poignant. I like the last lines, how it contrasts Archer and Reed and ties into the title.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:47:59 -0500
29Poppy
Nostalgia calls this a triple drabble but it's certainly more than the sum of its parts. Her writing is stylish and lyrical and each segment teases you to ferret out its meaning and everything from the title to the summary counts. The story is told from just the right point of view and is rich with allusion. It is the kind of story you know was put together with care and repays the same care in reading.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:49:20 -0500
30Porthos' Shadows of P'Jem Log
I found this log charming. PJ is adept at conveying this canine's view on things and his never-ending search for the "bitch" his papa mentioned.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:50:17 -0500
31The Resolution
This story was quite good at climbing into Captain Archer's head and was quite funny. The last line especially is a hoot. And "The Resolution" is one of those stories that work on more than one level, as both a story about Archer and a commentary on this year's season. Sadly this story captures all too well how I feel about Enterprise in its second season. I liked Enterprise a lot at first, and like the Archer of this story hoped I'd feel that tingle again. I can only hope that TPTB would make their own resolution and make Enterprise fun to watch again. At least we have great fic like Kay Jay's to tide us over!
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:52:03 -0500
32The Ritual
This story was very funny. It developed the elements of the challenge it was based on quite cleverly I thought and the author put me very vividly into the picture with just the right details. And the image of the men of the crew through Hoshi's eyes drawn in was vivid.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:53:07 -0500
33Temporal Tribbles
The way this depicted the twisted confusion of time travel made me smile.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:53:42 -0500
34Tilt
I liked this story that captured Trip's personality and charm quite well. Very nice Hoshi and Travis as well.
-- Rabble Rouser - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:54:19 -0500
35A Way With Words
"A Way with Words" is a terrific story and very memorable and enjoyable. As I have come to expect with this writer, Nostalgia is incredibly good at creating a Hoshi Sato I would not have expected but is so compellingly presented on the page I fully believe her. I didn't see the ending coming at all--it was a wonderful shock when I first read "A Way with Words," but all that comes before in the story makes it credible and a satisfying resolution. The story is well written with a very strong characterization of Hoshi Sato that makes you think about the character on the screen; presenting another side than what we have seen and yet strongly evoking her. Line by line this also exquisite writing, which I think is particularly fitting for a tale about Hoshi Sato. Nostalgia's "A Way With Words" is such a strong story because like Hoshi Sato, Nostalgia certainly has quite a way with words. Quite a wonderful way in fact.

7Birth of the Federation
So *that's* how it all started! Very cute!
-- TLin - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 14:27:54 -0500
8Catch Me When I Fall
A well written story of trust and friendship. Your experiment in POV worked well.
-- TLin - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 14:48:05 -0500
10Chivalry
A cute vignette. It read like something that Trip would have done, had he been given the chance.
-- TLin - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 14:51:46 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
Talk about your just desserts... this story made me smile. Never underestimate the power of pie!
-- Rocky - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 15:02:00 -0500
8Catch Me When I Fall
This is a very good friendship story. I like the refrain of 'trust me', and the title is appropriate on several levels.
-- Rocky - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 15:02:48 -0500
15Her Strut
This is a very enjoyable story. As soon as I saw this title I immediately thought of Malcom's comments about a certain part of T'Pol's anatomy, but monkee went one better and found applications for every member of the crew!
-- Rocky - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 15:03:33 -0500
12Dreams of a Lost Boy
Very enjoyable. I liked how the memories of childhood dreams helped Trip deal with his 'bad day'
-- TLin - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 15:19:22 -0500
15Her Strut
A great look at an intruiging character through many different eyes. I especially liked Porthos' opinion.
-- Sara - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 20:24:18 -0500
15Her Strut
Hehe. Any story with so many nice lines and a decent Porthos POV yet (behold the power of cheese) is worth the read. And dammit, monkee, now I *do* have that Bob Seger song stuck in my head.
-- Paula Stiles - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 20:41:12 -0500
15Her Strut
LOL, this story is light and humorous. I really enjoyed the crew's perspective on T'Pol! Even from the subservient quadraped! Well done.
-- Seema - Sun, 02 Mar 2003 23:42:20 -0500
35A Way With Words
A few moments in "Broken Bow" made me wonder about the possibility of Archer/Sato, so it was nice to see a fic with that pairing. For any professional, the loss of an innate ability must be frightening, and you really had me feeling for Hoshi. I was *not* prepared for the clever twist at the end.
-- Rocky - Tue, 04 Mar 2003 14:28:06 -0500
9Cherry Sno-Cones
Nice rendition of Trip's 'voice' and I liked the bit of fleshing out of Natalie and Trip's background.
-- Rocky - Tue, 04 Mar 2003 14:32:11 -0500
2Anthropomorphism
Why Porthos? A very good question about naming. I can only hope that if The powers that be chose to answer that question their answer will be as good.
-- Stephen Ratliff - Wed, 05 Mar 2003 22:37:27 -0500
3Alpha Shift
The Universal Translator can't be perfect, but in this story, Just Visit portrays a Hoshi Sato who believes it's her job to make sure it is. In every series I've found some writer that just gets into the skin of a particular character. In the case of Enterprise and Hoshi Sato, I think I've found that author. And this story is no simple story either. Hoshi encounter plenty of difficulties on her way to solving the problem with the Universal Translator, yet the solution was quite logical. I'll have to read more stories by this author.
-- Stephen Ratliff - Wed, 05 Mar 2003 23:33:25 -0500
4Archer Knows Jack
Short, funny, in character. What more can you ask?
-- Stephen Ratliff - Wed, 05 Mar 2003 23:35:25 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
All I can say about this fic is that it must have been some really good pie.
-- Stephen Ratliff - Wed, 05 Mar 2003 23:43:05 -0500
11Don't You Tell A Single Soul
Nice Twist. A multi-warp capable craft from a polar lanch site? I want Ambassador Soval to have that visit.
-- Stephen Ratliff - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:07:53 -0500
12Dreams of a Lost Boy
Earlier I said that Just Visiting had the keen grasp of the character of Hoshi Sato. Well Jazz has written what I counsider to be the definitive Trip Tucker Story. It doesn't deal with as much of his job, but Jazz got right into the mind of one Charles Tucker III, and I'm awaiting more of it.
-- Stephen Ratliff - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:18:15 -0500
35A Way With Words
Another lovely story from nostalgia. An intriguing potrait of a woman who has 'lost' what is most dear to her. I really like this examination of Hoshi's character and the lyrical language used here.
-- Seema - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:33:04 -0500
29Poppy
This fic has vivid imagery and interesting use of language.
-- Seema - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:37:27 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
Bwahahaa! I love this fic! The rejoinder from the Andorian to the Suliban representative is just priceless! Not to mention, thanks to monkee, we know now the *real* reason that Earth has become the center of the universe.
-- Seema - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:41:08 -0500
2Anthropomorphism
Thanks to this fic, we know now how Porthos got his name! I like the gentle camaraderie between between Archer, Trip and T'Pol. Well done.
-- Seema - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:45:43 -0500
9Cherry Sno-Cones
I love stories that fill in the blanks in a character's history and this is a good example of one. The interaction between Trip and the memory/delusion of his girlfriend is well-done.
-- Seema - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:49:02 -0500
31The Resolution
Second person POV is always hard to do well, but it's carried off exceptionally here. Not to mention, rereading it, I picked up on the more meta-like aspects of this fic. The last line makes the story!
-- Seema - Thu, 06 Mar 2003 00:53:03 -0500
3Alpha Shift
This is an amazing story on many levels. It's about how we humans often time strive for perfection, even though we know it's unattainable. It's about _having_ to find the solution to a problem. It's an in-depth look into what drives Hoshi in her work, and why she's such a good linguist. I like her relationship with the others on the ship, and how she eventually comes up with a solution, that while it may not be perfect, it solves the problem well enough in the time she has. A very good story.
-- Cait N. - Fri, 07 Mar 2003 11:17:54 -0500
31The Resolution
This was cute, very cute. I expected Archer to regret saying someting about T'Pol. Never saw the ending coming.
-- Cait N. - Fri, 07 Mar 2003 11:19:46 -0500
13The First Stone
I love how Trip wrestles with himself, with his understanding of right and wrong, and how Malcolm tries to get him to see that we shouldn't always judge a culture based on our own set of morals or value system. Very good story.
-- Cait N. - Fri, 07 Mar 2003 11:22:28 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
I almost fell out of my chair laughing the first time I read this. I almost wish this had been in an episode. I would have paid money to get a copy. I love what Shran the Andorian says to the Suliban representative. And the explanation of how the feud with the Klingons began... priceless!
-- Cait N. - Fri, 07 Mar 2003 11:27:16 -0500
20The Land Of Canon : Glimpses of a Broken Bow
Yes! This is the way Broken Bow _should_ have been written. Rob does an excellent job of switching things around so that the timeline isn't compromised, and the original series adventures aren't anything more than a pipe dream.
-- Cait N. - Sun, 09 Mar 2003 15:13:55 -0500
13The First Stone
-- Taryn Eve - Tue, 11 Mar 2003 21:03:20 -0500
35A Way With Words
Insidious and evil.(nostalgia pointed out to me that we can't comment on our own stories, so I came back. Please diseregard my earlier votes if it was for my stuff. Thanks!)
-- Taryn Eve - Tue, 11 Mar 2003 21:57:19 -0500
16Hoshi's Box: The Final Straw
Another fantastic fic! Mara brings so much amusement to the story and yet it has it's moments where we totally understand the frustration of having a really bad day.
-- M. Edison@thezone.net - Tue, 11 Mar 2003 21:58:00 -0500
2Anthropomorphism
A cute story of how Porthos got his name.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 09:07:01 -0500
3Alpha Shift
Oh, I love this story! Hoshi is so well characterized, with her curiosity over the linguistic puzzle and her impatience and frustration at not being able to solve it more quickly. There's a good solid mystery here, and beautiful descriptions of an alien world. The story manages to be both suspenseful and lighthearted throughout, with excellent friendship scenes. One of my favorites of the year.
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 09:21:33 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
Hee! So that's how the Federation Council ended up on Earth! The squabbling is hilarious, as is the resolution!

8Catch Me When I Fall
An excellent Archer and Trip friendship story. Normally I don't have much interest in hurt/comfort stories, but this one is very well done.

9Cherry Sno-Cones
Tucker is always a fun character in fanfic, with his earnest but slightly smartass personality, and this story captures his character well. Yes, it's sort of silly, but I enjoyed reading it.

11Don't You Tell A Single Soul
Good one! I can imagine T'Pol telling that story with a perfectly straight face!

13The First Stone
A thoughful exploration of the difficulties involved in being nonjudgmental when dealing with other races. The Prime Directive, or whatever version of it they have in Enterprise's times, isn't easy to live by.

14A Friend in Need
Quite a vivid description of poor Tucker drowning his sorrows. Hee! I'm glad he has friends to look after him!

15Her Strut
No list of this year's best ENT stories would be complete without this one! The characters' voices sound just right, even to "The Subservient Quadruped." Gotta love all the officers' secret attractions to T'Pol. But please, monkee, do NOT write, or even think about writing, a follow-up story pairing Phlox with T'Pol! (Especially after we've seen Phlox's tongue!)

16Hoshi's Box: The Final Straw
This one made me giggle. I think we can all sympathize with the results of too little sleep and too much work. Poor Hoshi.

18Little Spaceship of Horror
ROTFL! This story is a hilariously whacko B-movie parody, complete with monster, shrieking crewmen, Reed wanting to blow up everything in sight, and Tucker saving the day. Fun!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 10:06:28 -0500
28Planet of the Suicide Bombers
A poignant, vivid description of a ruined world, one where the entire culture places no value on life and sees murder as martyrdom. This is a timely and frightening cautionary tale that illustrates the futility of trying to negotiate with terrorists.

29Poppy
This story was posted on Veterans' Day and is an excellent tribute to those long-ago fallen soldiers, as well as, unfortunately, those who will die in battle this year. I, too, wish that it were possible to look back on the ancient carnage and believe that the human species had evolved enough so that it would never happen again. Maybe someday.

30Porthos' Shadows of P'Jem Log
Aww, I was sad to see the last of the puppy logs. They were great fun!

31The Resolution
Well, this certainly turned out to have a surprising ending! Though I think it's the hordes of disgusted Trek fans the author is channeling here, not Archer!
-- Ventura33 - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 10:31:48 -0500
32The Ritual
Hee hee, a great challenge response! I'd say poor Hoshi was tormented quite sufficiently here, although she did at least have a good view to enjoy!

35A Way With Words
A weird, twisted story, and yet we've all had times when it seems much easier to run away than to stay and face a bad situation, so I can't say it's entirely beyond belief. Definitely an interesting perspective here.

7Birth of the Federation
I usually don't have time to read stories outside of VOY, but I can't resist anything written by Monkee. And she doesn't disappoint me here. This "backstory" is hilarious; Monkee captures the Vulcans' voices (and their hidden emotions) perfectly.

15Her Strut
I love this story! T'Pol is probably my favorite ENT character, and monkee does a fabulous job of showing her from the points of view of the other characters, even the "subservient quadruped" (ha!). One of monkee's greatest skills is her ability to capture a character's style in both diction and thought -- and she uses that skill to excellent effect here.

35A Way With Words
The first time I read this story, I was blown away. The aliens are wonderfully alien, as fully realized as anything I've seen in Trek fiction. The mystery of the language was fascinating, the pacing was excellent and the characterizations exactly right. This is not just a terrific ENT story, but a terrific Trek story.

34Tilt
I'm a sucker for stories that not only make friendships come alive, but leave the door open for more. Nicely done.

31The Resolution
Oh. who among us hasn't had the same thought? Wicked fun.

30Porthos' Shadows of P'Jem Log
I miss the Porthos logs! It was good to read this one again. The puppy POV always brings a smile.

15Her Strut
Great title, great inspiration, and most of all, a funny story. The voices are all correct, right down to Porthos, and every one comedic. Very well done, indeed.

14A Friend in Need
Aww. A nice firendship story. I like this Hoshi.

11Don't You Tell A Single Soul
There's an inherent problem in mixing Christmas and Trek, since the holiday is never actually ackowledged on the show. This story not only overcomes that problem but it's like my great-aunt's Christmas cookies - small, tasty and packing a big smile at the end.

9Cherry Sno-Cones
A nice side bar to Crossing the Desert. And I like this picture of a young, romantic Trip.
-- Penny Proctor - Sat, 15 Mar 2003 07:36:16 -0500
8Catch Me When I Fall
Nice backstory for Trip and Archer, filling out a bit of the incident on Titan. Trip's dream-state is handled well and this Archer is perhaps a bit better than what we usually see on the show.
-- Penny Proctor - Sat, 15 Mar 2003 07:41:16 -0500
7Birth of the Federation
Of course! This explains it all. Too funny.

3Alpha Shift
The first time I read this story, I was blown away. The aliens are wonderfully alien, as fully realized as anything I've seen in Trek fiction. The mystery of the language was fascinating, the pacing was excellent and the characterizations exactly right. This is not just a terrific ENT story, but a terrific Trek story.

35A Way With Words
I thought I knew where this story was going. I was wrong. The ending makes it all the sadder. This is my favorite among many fine ansty pieces by this author.

7Birth of the Federation
[snort!] I love it. And of course, it would be that way--since the way to everyone's (including the Klingon) heart is through his/her stomach. It also explains why Pike looks so wistful in that Menagerie fantasy. Guess Earth was already too enlightened for Orion Slave Girls.

11Don't You Tell A Single Soul
Hehehe. Cute Christmas story. I like it. But I still wanna know--is he a superbeing or what?
