Meg\'s gift for description and setting is vividly on display in this story. I also like the friendship between Barclay and Geordi.

Very nice follow-up to \"Inner Light\" in filling in the emotional blanks. Lori, as usual, has intelligently captured Picard and Troi, keeping them perfectly in character, and also giving a good sense of what Picard\'s emotions are in the aftermath of \'losing\' his family. I particularly enjoyed Picard\'s comment, \"I know you sense pain all too well.\"

I like this take on why Crusher leaves Enterprise; this answers the emotional question, if not professional motivation. I especially appreciated Beverly\'s line about not being anyone\'s property.

I really enjoy the Picard and Janeway dynamic, and this story captures the \'why\' perfectly. Rocky expertly navigates the lonely world of being a starship captain, the burden of command, and the sacrifices that they have to make. And it makes sense to put these two together, because they do have so much in common and really, it does take one to know one. This story does a fantastic job of bringing the toughest aspects of commond to light.

Nice insight into what could be a captain\'s toughest job.

Hee! I like this confirmation that Picard wasn\'t wrong.

There are some aspects of this story I really like, especially Beverly\'s grief after Jack\'s death. I look forward to seeing more from this author in the future.

I can definitely see Crusher experiencing some of the emotional conflicts portrayed in this story.

I\'m so glad to see this epic is finally completed and in one place for easy reading. The writing is wonderful, with nice attention paid to character, description and dialogue. This is definitely among the best TNG fics I\'ve read.

Lori has been a consistent and intelligent contributor to the TNG ouvre for years, and she does a wonderful job rounding out the characters by filling in the emotional blanks. She adds dimension to the character of Deanna Troi, and makes the counselor\'s interactions with Picard extremely believable. It\'s always a treat to read Lori\'s stories, and I especially liked this year\'s \"At the End of the World.\" Here\'s to seeing more from Lori in 2006.

Rocky excels no matter what series she writes in, but I especially enjoyed her take on Picard in \"Darkness\", and the way she explored the burdens of command. It\'s something that\'s alluded to, and one of the things TNG fell short on in the beginning was fleshing out how the characters would be changed by the things that happened to them. Rocky fills that void expertly and I hope she continues to round out these characters in the future.

Ke Roth has easily written one of the best TNG epics in recent years. It has everything one can ask for in a fic -- plotty, well-written and characterized -- and there\'s enough there to sink one\'s teeth into. I\'ve been eyeing \"Echoes\" for the entire duration of its posting, and it was truly worth the wait.

A wonderful tale from the alternate universe with suitably evil though unexpected ending.
