Career Advancement by Whoa Nellie

This is probably my favorite story of the year. Whoa Nellie did a fabulous job in an AU that was dead on. Although I usually find sex doesn\'t do much to promote a story line, this is a big exception - it was absolutely perfect, progressing the story to its unexpected ending and making for a great read! Loved it!

But For Love by Patricia Ann LaFerrara

This is one of those love/hate stories. I loved the writing and the style, as well as the characters and their growth over the many parts, but I really hated that it ended. In fact, I\'d love to see Patricia revisit this story and reveal what\'s going on in the minds of the characters as she envisions the story we didn\'t get to see on television. It\'s a great perspective and she tells the tale very well.

Defeat by Kaytee

I love Kaytee\'s stories, and this was another nice effort on that inherent issue in all P/C stories - Beverly\'s fears about the future and the reality what could - and does - happen, as well about the regrets of waiting until it\'s too late.

The Diary by Kaytee

Despite my admiration for Kaytee (love your work!), this isn\'t my favorite story - probably because I want more from her writing. I really enjoy the depths of her characterizations, and this one just is a little shallower than most of her work - which is disappointing, especially as the premise is from my favorite P/C episode. Hmm... Maybe she\'ll consider re-writing this one for me and the other P/C junkies who want more of her work? Please?

Fight For Love by Heather Smyth

I love Heather\'s work - and this is one of her best efforts. The character she has created as Beverly\'s adversary is great - pig-headed, single-minded - a character you love to hate. I also really enjoyed the P/C relationship she established in the early in the story - nothing against every writer who works on explaining how it came about, but it was a real treat to get past that and see what happened in her reality once they were a \'couple\'. Now if Heather would just stop beating up the poor captain!

First Time by Catherine Ellis

Every time I see the title, I keep thinking it\'s a \'different\' first time - and even though it\'s not, this story is always a charmer. It\'s very easy to imagine that this is how that first time went - and to sense the disppointment that all three felt, albeit at different levels and for different reasons. Catherine Ellis has written another delightful story - as always.

Heart Song by Heather Smyth

Once again, Hether has written another great story - and once again, it\'s her ability to create interesting characters outside the TNG world that makes the story so interesting. This time, it\'s the little family that she creates that enthralled me - I would have loved to ahev seen more of them in the story - and perhaps even as the focus of another (still P/C, of course!) tale). Heather has a real ability to create characters - both alien and human - that enrich her stories and provide interesting foils and friends for the crew.

Money For Souls by Heather Smyth

This one was a little grisly for my taste - which isn\'t to say it wasn\'t well written since it was - are any of Heather\'s stories not well-written? The images have stayed with me - uncomfortably - since I read it, and re-reading it today, brought back those disturbing images far more readily than I would like. Bothersome as that is, it\'s also a sign of a well-written tale - but I would expect nothing less from Heather.

The Ribbon by DocBevCulver

What is it with these drabbles that, in 100 words or less, convey more impact than stories that drag on for years and hundreds of pages. This story not only caught the flavor of the episode and embodied it perfectly, it was also a great P/C tale - and all in one hundred words. I am so envious! Great story.

The Seed That Grows by Heather Smyth

Love your work, Heather, but this one\'s a little too alien-abuctee/\'we have to reproduce and we need your reproductive organs\' for my taste. Which isn\'t to say it\'s not well-written, because it is - all Heather\'s work is well done. Nice P/C, however, which more than makes up for the aliens.

Snow Falling Softly by mackillian

This is one of those stories where I\'m not sure I liked it - and yet it was so well written that you can\'t not like it. I disliked some premises - I can\'t believe Beverly would opt to live so much of her life away from her children - or that she could manage to have so large a family without Picard figuring it out at some point (or figuring out his role in the events) - and both stretched my credulity past the breaking point. But at the same time, mackillian\'s writing style is lyrical and poetic, and the use of word and rhythm was charming, keeping me reading throughout the story. It was one of those stories that I couldn\'t wait to see posted, even while a part of me didn\'t like it.

From the Inside, Out C, P by Kaytee

Okay - I loved this one. I loved the POV being so different, I loved Kaytee\'s interpretations of what was happening \'behind the scenes\' so to speak, and I love the way she wrote it. It was one of those stories that you do not want to see end - and I would have dearly loved for her to continue writing these background stories for every P/C episode. (Hint, hint) Really, really nicely done, and with a refreshing vantage point for the reader. Yay, Kaytee!

Patterns of Behavior by Whoa Nellie

What? Whoa Nellie without smut? What is this world coming to when there\'s a Whoa Nellie tale without gratuitous sex? Sigh. Well, if we can\'t have our smut, at least we got a nice story. Well done, as always.

Darkness by Rocky

P/J has never been one of my favorite pairings, but this story from Rocky doesn\'t dwell on the relationship as much as it focuses on the individuals as individuals, and catches both personalities beautifully. It\'s really a well done bit of writing with great insight into what makes these people who they are, and gives the reader an exceptional peek into teh soul behind the character. Very well written, and a real pleasure to read.

Home by Ke Roth

Just based on the first 2 parts submitted for the award period, Home already showcases enough of Ke Roth\'s great understanding for how the main characters of this milieu think, feel and act. The story appears to develop richly and at length, both as a consequence of what drives the characters from within, as well as their detailed interactions with one another, moment after moment. This makes for new personal drama, not overly mushy, but surprisingly refreshing and attractive. Yet I can still continue to identify with, for example, the \"real\" Picard, B-4 and Geordi, whom I have come to know. Good grasp of the Star Trek and The Next Generation universe is in ample evidence, blending in to form a backdrop for proper story development, rather than interfering with its flow.

Career Advancement by Whoa Nellie

I missed this one when it was first posted, but I\'m glad I had a chance to read it in the awards! It definitely fits into both the evil ways of the Mirror Universe and the sexy ways of Jean-Luc. Evil Beverly is recognizably in character too, and I liked the part about keeping Jean-Luc going indefinitely because of his artificial heart. Does he have an Energizer battery in there? Hee hee.

Echoes by Ke Roth

Seeing this saga winding down was like an old familiar friend packing up to move away. I knew it had to happen sometime, but it was such an enjoyable adventure that I didn\'t want it to end. Keeping an installment story going with such a high level of drama, intricate plotting, and impeccable characterization is quite a challenge, but Ke Roth is more than equal to the task.

Home by Ke Roth

Yay, Data\'s back to life, Ke Roth is back to writing, and all is well with the world! I\'m definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next!

The Adventures of William Riker by Whoa Nellie

Plot? What use could a good steamy Whoa Nellie story possibly have for a plot? The TNG characters are always fun when they\'re putting on a theater performance, and even more so when they\'re taking breaks for lustful interludes. Stab that dastardly plot through the heart!
-- Ventura33, 19:24 10th March

At the End of the World by Lori

This was such an emotionally powerful episode, it definitely needed more following up than the series could give it, and this story does a nice job of filling in the missing pieces.
-- Ventura33, 19:26 10th March

Bearer Of Bad Mews, I Must Be by Kevin Johnston

It\'s good to see more of Moriarty in fanfic, and I think it\'s very much in character for Barclay to care about Moriarty\'s feelings and to feel responsible for his well-being. Nicely done.
-- Ventura33, 19:30 10th March

A Brigand\'s Devoir by Whoa Nellie

Vash up to her usual sneaky ways, sexy Jean-Luc having his way with her and being a macho beast in a barroom brawl, oh yeah, this couldn\'t be anyone but the inimitable Whoa Nellie. Very fun!

The ASC Awards are a project of the ASC-VSO, led this year by Seema (Awards-Coordinator), aided by Rocky (Assistant Coordinator) and Stephen (Awards Tech Support) They run every year from March to April for stories posted to ASC (alt.startrek.creative) between February 1 and January 31. A Tribble was harmed when we moved the voting booth. A little ... okay he's dead but there are plenty more around.
