Breaking the Spell by Acidqueen

I thoroughly enjoyed this subtle story. The McCoy-Chapel dynamic is one that fascinates me anyway, and Acidqueen packed a great deal of content -- most of it under the surface and between the lines -- about the two, their bittersweet relationship, and the longings each possesses. The ending, in particular, was particularly moving in the way it characterized McCoy and explained why Chapel would choose to leave. As effective for what it doesn\'t say as what it spells out, this is lovely work.

In The Dark by Acidqueen

I enjoyed this story for it\'s interesting premise and most especially its voices. I could *hear* McCoy, and the exchanges between the Doctor and Spock were so spot-on that they made the action quite believable. Very nice work.

5-7-5 by Jungle Kitty

/Manhood set on stun./ /You know Kirk would have./ /Stupid Guardian./ These had me laughing out loud. Lots of fun.

Snow by Coral

A wonderful look at Pike and especially at Number One. Playful and insightful. Great character sketches.

A Slow Boat To China by Rob Morris

Incredibly clever. And so Jim Kirk. This does a lot in the space of one drabble. Great stuff.

The ASC Awards are a project of the ASC-VSO, led this year by Seema (Awards-Coordinator), aided by Rocky (Assistant Coordinator) and Stephen (Awards Tech Support) They run every year from March to April for stories posted to ASC (alt.startrek.creative) between February 1 and January 31. A Tribble was harmed when we moved the voting booth. A little ... okay he's dead but there are plenty more around.
